Trey and Carley Schmedt
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE STORY!
How did you meet?
I swiped right, and we matched on Bumble.
How did you know he was “The One”?
I knew Trey was the one after taking him home to meet my family for the first time. We were sitting around the table at my grandparents’ house, and he meshed so well with everyone. Right then and there I knew he was the one for me. Trey said that he knew I was the one after that trip as well.
How did he propose?
Trey proposed at our new home in New Braunfels surrounded by our family. Immediately following the proposal was our engagement party with all of our friends! It was perfectly “us” to be surrounded by the ones we love the most.
Describe your wedding planning process
What planning tools did you use?
We used Aisle Planner which was a lifesaver thanks to Brooke with Cat Haus Collective.
Who helped with the planning?
It was mainly Trey and me before we brought in Brooke to support us leading up to our wedding day.
Did you hire a planner or day-of coordinator?
Yes, we did. It was the best decision we could have made! Brooke, with Cat Haus Collective, was the best!
Did you DIY any aspect of your wedding?
Yes! I have a graphic design background, so I did all of the wedding signage on my own. I also DIY’d most of the dried floral arrangements and had a lot of fun with it.
Did you have a specific theme?
I wanted a “desert garden party” vibe.
Where did you save the most?
We saved a lot on the florals and by buying my dress second hand! Renting tuxedos also saved us a lot versus buying out right.
Where did you splurge?
We splurged on the venue since we wanted a place to stay for the entire weekend! It was so special getting to be there the entire time before and after the wedding.
Why did you choose your venue?
We settled on Marfa, Texas since that was the place Trey and I travelled to together. We fell in love there and wanted everyone to experience the quirky little town in Far West Texas!
Did you incorporate any special traditions or sentimental details in your ceremony or reception?
I had a photo of my late father tied to my bouquet along with an angel pearl charm my stepdad gifted me on the day of the wedding. Our memory table was also filled with photos of loved ones who couldn’t be there on our special day.
What was your most stressful decision?
The food and drinks were our most stressful decision to make. We wanted the food to be yummy, and we wanted to make sure we had plenty of alcohol throughout the night.
What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?
Hiring Brooke, with Cat Haus Collective, really took a lot of the day-of stress off my shoulders. We can’t sing her praises enough, and I’m so thankful we got to work with her!
Is there anything you would have done differently?
Nothing! It truly was the most perfect day of our lives!
Tell Us About...
Your dress:
This has a funny story behind it! I ordered a new dress two weeks before the wedding. I had been dreaming of the BHLDN Valerie Flutter-Sleeve Pleated Satin Wedding Gown. I quite literally couldn’t imagine myself not walking down the aisle in it. Once I made up my mind on getting my dream dress, I really thought it was too late. We were ONE MONTH out from our wedding, so I begrudgingly decided to settle for the dress I originally purchased. My original one was beautiful, but it didn’t feel like me, especially after going through so many alterations. The BHLDN dress just would NOT leave my mind, so I started looking for my size on Stillwhite, a wedding resale shop, and found a very nice girl who was selling her dress in my size, and it was altered to my height. All the cards truly aligned, and the dress ended up fitting me perfectly. Getting this dress two weeks before the wedding felt like fate. I didn’t really tell anyone I got a new dress, so it was a funny surprise the day of the wedding when everyone got to watch me put it on. It was so special. I will always be grateful for the kind girl who express-shipped the dress to me. I sent her photos afterward, and she was thrilled to know we had shared our dream dress.
Your flowers:
I used Hidden Botanics to make my dried flower bouquet and my bridesmaids as well. I then used their flower bundles to DIY my table and aisle arrangements. I would have loved real flowers, but the location being in the desert made me nervous to transport live flowers!
The Food:
We catered tapas-style appetizers and fajitas from Para Llevar. They also provided our bar service and made the best prickly pear margaritas!
The cake:
Our cake made the trek with us from New Braunfels to Marfa in a Yeti cooler. Emerald Whisk made it for us, and it is still the best cake I’ve ever had!
Recap your big day for us
What made you laugh?
Someone accidentally put a photo of our cat on the memory table, so we had a lot of friends coming up to us asking if Halen had passed away before the wedding. She was promptly moved to the bar area where she was intended to go, and we still laugh about the placement mishap to this day.
What made you cry?
I cried tears of joy as I was walking down the aisle to my husband while being surrounded by the people who mean so much to us. I’ll remember that moment forever. Trey cried during our first look before the ceremony. It was such a special moment for the two of us before we officially tied the knot, and all of the nerves went away once we were able to be together after being apart all day.
What were the most memorable moments?
Getting ready with everyone and hanging out at the venue was a lot of fun. It was a destination wedding, so many people were out exploring Marfa and would stop by the venue to say hello as the girls were getting ready. The boys were out golfing for most of the morning and were almost late getting back to get ready!
Did anything unexpected happen?
During our ceremony, the space next door was having a party, so their music was blaring the entire time. It’s funny looking back now!
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
Remember that not everything needs to be done in a day, and don’t stress the small stuff! Everyone is there to celebrate your love and that’s what will make everything turn out perfectly!
What did you look forward to most as Mr. and Mrs.?
We were looking forward to starting a new chapter of our lives as husband and wife and continuing to build a loving relationship. We also look forward to many more travel adventures and eventually growing our family.
