What to Know About Wedding Bar Services

A wedding bar is about more than drinks. The right setup keeps your guests comfortable, works with your venue‘s rules, and matches the tone of your reception.

Here are a few things to consider as you compare bar services in the Texas Hill Country.

Wondering when to book your bar service? Our Texas Hill Country wedding planning timeline shows where it fits alongside your other vendors.

A wedding bar service brings the bartenders, the setup, and the service so you and your guests can relax and enjoy the night.

Packages vary quite a bit. Some vendors serve alcohol that you supply, which is a common and budget-friendly choice in Texas. Others handle everything, from bar tools and ice through to the alcohol itself. Southern Standard offers three tiers, including a You Supply, We Serve option, plus a cash bar where guests pay by the drink or open a tab.

Always ask what is included. Bartenders, ice and coolers, cups, napkins, garnishes, and mixers either come with your package or land on your own to-do list.

In Texas, alcohol service is regulated, and venues often set their own requirements about who may serve on the property.

Ask any bar service whether their bartenders hold a current TABC license. Southern Standard’s bartenders do, and each one brings professional experience along with it.

Confirm your venue’s requirements early, since this is the kind of detail that tends to surface late in planning. It is also worth asking about a tasting: Southern Standard includes a complimentary 60 minute tasting with its full packages, which is the easiest way to settle your bar menu.

The bar itself can be part of your design. Beyond staffing, some vendors rent the structures and equipment that shape how the space looks and flows.

Southern Standard rents a Horse Trailer Bar, Herringbone Bars, a Backlit Bar, and a Margarita Machine, so your bar can be a feature of the reception rather than a folding table in the corner.

If you are still choosing a venue, ask what the space allows. Indoor and outdoor bars have different power, shade, and access needs, and that answer often shapes which setup makes sense.

Drinks also have to agree with the rest of the reception. Talk to your wedding caterer about timing between dinner and the bar, and consider a wedding coffee bar for the last hour if you want something warm to send guests home on.
