Welcome to The Hills Wedding Guide. My name is Swanee Browning, and I’m incredibly excited to be providing this amazing online wedding planning resource for both brides and wedding vendors in Texas Hill Country.
Something few people know about me is I’m a cowgirl at heart. I married my husband, Chuck, a city boy and the love of my life in a little Baptist church that my precious mother (a premier decorator) had beautifully garnished with magnolia leaves and red poinsettias.
My six bridesmaids wore long elegant chiffon red frocks and carried white muffs, a scene straight from the movie “White Christmas!”. I designed my antique white charmeuse wedding gown myself – picture a cross between one of Vivien Leigh’s bustled antebellum off the shoulder creations in “Gone With the Wind” and Lilly James’s magical ball gown in “Cinderella.”
Many of my early memories center around my mother’s flare for hospitality and decorating. I remember watching her shape floral centerpieces and grand mantel displays for special occasions in our home, stamping each one with something authentic.
At Christmas it was the little figurines of children sledding a snowy slope that she fashioned, or a stunning wreath that she crafted using juniper berries to hang over the fireplace.
A fascination of how my mother wove innovative designs in every nook in our home and in the special moments of our family life is what shaped and nurtured my own gift of hospitality and love for home fashion & decorating that’s inevitably crossed into the wedding industry.
What began on a family farm and ventured into many places over the years, has culminated in calling New Braunfels home for the last decade and a half. I’ve always found New Braunfels to be extraordinarily unique. It’s proud German heritage, the rivers’ constant appeal to slow down with a lazy float, and the traditional festivities that bring the community together for a bit of fun, are all what first convinced my husband and I to make New Braunfels our home.
After teaching in New Braunfels for a time, the wedding industry literally found me. I brought with me to this new endeavor years of experience with coordinating and planning weddings for family and friends. I am a confirmed, long-standing, dyed in the wool romantic. Weddings should be all about the romance, a couple’s love story. The challenge of fulfilling a bride’s dream for her wedding day is an undertaking I understand.
My experience in the business community of New Braunfels plowed a path leading to the discovery of yet another remarkable anomaly characterizing our special town. It was the brawny, almost tangible, bigger-than-life sense of community, neighbor helping neighbor. Our business community reflects this practice by actively and intentionally promoting one another.
I believe this actuality absolutely defines our beautiful town and sets us apart. This extraordinary quality spoke to my own longing to be an advocate for others in our industry. My answer came while driving one day to pick up one of my grandchildren, our very own thehillsweddingguide.com.
The Hills Wedding Guide was founded out of my love for the wedding planning industry and to give local businesses in our town an avenue to capture the attention of our local brides.
