Tell us about your love story!

How did you meet?

We met while living/working overseas in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We were friends first and didn’t start dating until we were both back in the United States.

How did you know he was “The One”?

We both just knew we had something special. We have so many common interests and values. But mostly, our love for music is what brought us together and keeps us singing and dancing!

How long did you date?

We dated for almost ten years. After we moved to New Braunfels in 2021, I asked for a ring and a party!

How did he propose?

He planned a really fun getaway weekend and a boudoir photo shoot. Our photographer was in on the proposal which she captured beautifully.

Describe your wedding planning process.

Who helped with the planning?

In the beginning, Melindi at Gruene Estates was helpful in the local planning and sourcing. Heather Orsak at A Perfect Day NB was integral in making my vision come to life with her rentals, availability, and ideas. My Aunt Elizabeth also helped and was my right hand throughout the entire process.

Did you hire a planner or day-of-coordinator?

We used In Ink Weddings for day-of coordination. I had no idea how helpful this would be. She put together the day’s timeline and made sure everything was in place. I didn’t even know a timeline was needed. She was key for the day-of.

Did you have a specific theme?

Honky Tonk Disco was our theme! We encouraged our guests to wear disco, honky tonk, sequins, euphoria inspired makeup, and anything that made them want to party.

Where did you splurge?

We splurged on custom invitations and vintage postage stamps. I am still in love with my invitations and love that I was able to use disco and lovebird themed stamps.

Why did you choose your venue?

We chose Gruene Estates because of its availability and location. Having a New Braunfels address was a top priority for me.

Did you incorporate any special traditions or sentimental details in your ceremony or reception?

We had several sentimental details in our wedding. First, my 20-year-old son walked me down the aisle. Second, Kevin’s parents were unable to travel from Oklahoma due to illness, so we had seats “reserved” for them at the ceremony. Third, our brothers were the ones who officiated the ceremony. Fourth, we wrote our own vows and unbeknownst to each other, we both used song lyrics as vows. Fifth, Kevin danced with my mom to a song that my uncle (who passed away more than 30 years ago) wrote and recorded. All of my aunts and uncles were very emotional. It was a very special surprise for everyone including myself. Lastly, Kevin’s daughter hand picked and dried the flowers that our Flower Dude threw at the ceremony. She was unable to come because she just had a baby, so it was her way of being there.

What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?

We originally wanted to have live music, but we knew that we also wanted to hear and dance to specific songs. We ultimately chose a DJ and he was FANTASTIC. So many people complimented us, and I feel like he turned our reception into the party that we hoped for!

Is there anything you would have done differently?

I regret not hiring a videographer. I had no idea that I would want to watch a video of the night at least once. There are so many details that I never even got to see and some people that I didn’t get to talk to. I wish I could see the party from the camera’s eyes just once. I also wish that I asked my photographer to take more specific photos at the reception.

Tell us About

Your dress:

I bought THREE dresses to find THE dress. My first dress was a colorful, unique gown that I fell in love with (and was the last one available) so I bought it as a “backup”, but it had none of the elements I wanted in my dress. My second dress had all of the elements that I wanted, but needed alterations and changes to be perfect. My third dress, my wedding dress, was the same as the second dress., but this dress had the changes that I wanted to make – so it was already perfect! It was a strapless cream/gold sequin gown with a thigh high slit with feathers. My shoes were what stole the show. They were Jimmy Choo Heloise, a disco inspired velvet in “firefly” color. One guest commented that “your shoes are giving me life!”

Your flowers:

I wasn’t as concerned with the flowers. I trusted the flowers would be pretty because I just like fresh flowers. I had originally asked for a fall color scheme, but once the details of my HOnky TOnk Disco theme came together, our florist suggested something completely different. The flowers were fabulous and coordinated so perfectly with my disco ball and feather decor. We had a gorgeous mixed variety of white flowers, greenery, and feathers, and of course, LOTS of disco balls. It had a stunning glam vibe.

The food:

The food throughout the night was organized into Pappasitos “stations.” The cocktail hour was a HUGE hit: avocado on a half shell with lots of toppings and bacon wrapped shrimp with chips and salsa/queso. Dinner had a pasta station, fish taco station, beef fajita station, crab cake station, and a fried chicken station. The midnight snack was beef or chicken quesadillas.

The cake:

The groom’s cake was German Chocolate (covered in pecans and coconut). The bride’s cake was a naked carrot cake with a smear of teal icing to match the bride’s shoes and decorated with mini disco balls. The bride and groom cakes were miniature. The guests were treated to a variety of cupcake flavors including chocolate, vanilla, lemon, spice, and carrot. The cupcakes were decorated with disco ball tops.

Recap your big day for us.

What made you laugh?

My 33-year-old male cousin was my “Flower Dude.”  He walked in with a fanny pack filled with dried flowers to an acoustic version of Feel Like Making Love. I only got to see the pictures, but he really put on a show which everyone really enjoyed.

What made you cry?

I cried when hugging my son when he saw me in my dress for the first time. I also cried during Kevin’s vows. They were so sentimental and heartfelt. And of course, as he was saying them, I realized he was quoting lyrics, which is exactly what I had done.

What were the most memorable moments?

My most memorable moments was stopping to hug my parents before I stepped up to the altar and walking into the reception to “Hooked On a Feeling.” First, I saw all of our neighborhood friends, and everyone was so happy. It was just so much fun to see them waiting for us. I remember bouncing in time to the music, overcome with happiness. I loved being surprised by Kevin’s dance with my mom to my uncle’s song. And, of course, dancing all night to my favorite songs with all of our friends.

Did anything unexpected happen?

The night flew by in the blink of an eye!

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Decide first on what your priorities are. If there is something you have to have, don’t compromise. If there are some details that would bring it all together, just do it. That added expense isn’t going to mean much once it is all said and done. You will be glad you added it.

What did you look forward to most as Mr. and Mrs.?

After being together and dating so long, I looked forward to just being able to call him my husband!

Anything else you’d like to share?

Maybe people say this all the time, but everyone told us it was the most fun wedding they had ever been to. It’s been four months and people still tell us!
