Wesley and Jordyn Cornelius
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE STORY!
How did you meet?
We met on a Christian dating app called Upward in the early summer of 2022. Wesley actually private-messaged me first and used the sweetest, but cheesiest, pickup line.
How did you know he was “The One”?
I knew Wesley was the one when I saw how perfectly he blended with my family and how he already started to feel like my family not even a year into us dating. He is my best friend, and I knew that I didn’t want to spend my life and grow through life with anyone else.
How did he propose?
He proposed to me in my parents’ living room while we were opening Christmas presents. When it was my turn to open my gifts, he said he had a card for me in which he wrote the sweetest love note, and then he got down on one knee!
Describe your wedding planning process
Did you DIY any aspect of your wedding?
We brought photos from our engagement pictures and baby pictures of ourselves to be placed at the sign-in table and the dessert table. We also put these photos on a pin board near the sweetheart table.
Did you have a specific theme?
We were going for “Rustic Country Summer”. Texas Rock House fit this theme perfectly!
How many guests were invited?
We originally invited 120 guests and only about 80 ended up attending on the day of the wedding.
Where did you save the most?
We saved the most on the bride’s hair and makeup. My two best friends and I did it all ourselves.
Where did you splurge?
We definitely splurged on my wedding dress and veil. Another special addition was the groom’s King Ranch cowboy boots, given as a gift from his parents.
Why did you choose your venue?
Texas Rock House was actually the first venue we ever toured. We instantly loved the location because it was between Austin for my family and San Antonio and South Texas for Wesley’s family. We felt so comfortable with Erin and just knew it was the place we wanted to have our special day! It was intimate and spacious, yet elegant and rustic all at the same time. It was everything we could have dreamed of. We were taken care of like family, and I couldn’t appreciate Erin and her team enough!
Did you incorporate any special traditions or sentimental details in your ceremony or reception?
Flower petals were placed on the aisle right before I walked down, which was a surprise to both Wesley and I. It was such a special and beautiful moment.
We also chose very special and meaningful songs for the entire day.
My grandmother’s garter was from her wedding back in the 1950’s, as well as her necklace! My grandmother passed away when I was two-years-old. I also carried a memory bouquet charm with a picture of my grandfather holding me, who passed away last year, along with a photo of my Nana at age 20.
Wesley had a charm with a photo of his late grandfather pinned inside of his suit jacket throughout the ceremony and reception.
What was your most stressful decision?
The most stressful decision was deciding on all the details. We wanted to make sure our day was exactly how we imagined it and that we chose the perfect vendors and venue to create the most stress-free day possible. I feel we did an amazing job with that, and everyone truly made our day so special and easygoing.
What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?
One of the best decisions we made was creating our own Spotify Playlist for our wedding. Every song was one of our favorites, and we asked the DJ to not take requests because we loved every song already on the playlist. The songs were a hit on the dance floor.
Is there anything you would have done differently?
In hindsight, we should have started our photos a little earlier. I wish we could have spent more time with our guests before they started leaving for the night, but we were occupied with photos.
Tell Us About...
Your dress:
My dress had a floral print with a nude underlay that could be seen through the lace. It also had a slight corset style and was busseled after our ceremony for a more comfortable night. It was casual, but elegant. I wore white cowboy boots with pearl detailing.
Your flowers:
My bouquet was created by my sister-in-law and Wesley. My sister-in-law studied floral design at Texas A&M, so I couldn’t think of a better person to put my wedding day bouquet together. We gave her a color scheme and allowed her creative freedom with the rest.
The floral arrangements throughout the venue were done by The Floral Studio.
The Food:
We love BBQ, so it was the obvious choice for our wedding dinner! It was a big hit, and we received so many compliments on how delicious it was! The desserts were amazing, and our cook seriously rocked it!
The cake:
Our cake was done by Emerald Whisk Bakery, and it was incredible! She decorated it with wildflowers to match our theme. It was both beautiful and delicious!
Recap your big day for us
What made you laugh?
Having all of our closest friends and family all in one place at the same time brought constant smiles and laughter. From dancing, to conversations, to hugs from people we haven’t seen in years, happiness filled the entire night.
What made you cry?
Neither of us fully cried, but happy tears definitely tried to escape a few times. One moment was when we read our vows privately, and another was during the family speeches. It was such an emotional day but mostly we spent the night smiling and laughing.
What were the most memorable moments?
Having Wesley’s dad officiate our wedding was something we will never forget. It made the ceremony incredibly meaningful.
Another memorable moment was dancing with the lights off and only colorful disco lights shining on the dance floor. Wesley and I created our entire wedding playlist ourselves on Spotify, so every song that played was one of our favorites!
Another memorable moment was privately sharing our vows before walking down the aisle and officially becoming husband and wife.
Did anything unexpected happen?
Welsey purchased a belt specifically for the wedding, but when the day arrived, the belt didn’t fit through his pant loops! He ended up borrowing a belt from a friend.
Advice and Looking Ahead
What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
The best advice we can give to couples planning their wedding is to stay present with each other. Yes, you will have family and friends there, but ultimately this day is about you and your future spouse.
Spend as much time together as possible and enjoy being there. Everybody is there to celebrate your love and your new life together.
What did you look forward to most as Mr. and Mrs.?
We looked forward to building the foundation of our family under God and honoring each other as husband and wife in all aspects of life.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Make sure you get all the photos and videos you want! Be confident in your photographers and trust that they will capture your day exactly how you imagine it.
We also asked guests not to take photos or videos during the ceremony so I wouldn’t walk down the aisle to phones and flashes. This can be announced by your officiant or planner.
Another tip we learned from Erin was to eat dinner separately from everyone else so you can enjoy your meal without interruptions and spend a few quiet moments with your new spouse.
