"Do what truly makes you happy or what you want. It’s what we did, and we both have no regrets. Take time for yourselves because you do get wrapped up in everything for everyone on the day-of."

Alex and Kat Coffman

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE STORY!

How did you meet?

We met on Bumble! Our first date was at Velvet Taco at The Domain in Austin, and I felt like we hit it off right away! Over tacos, we talked about our goals in life, our values, and everything in between. It was one of those dates where you leave feeling excited about what could be!

How did you know he was “The One”?

It wasn’t one specific moment; it was a collection of little ones that added up. I knew Alex was “The One” because of how he treats me, but also anyone he truly cares about. Even when it’s not easy, he values honesty and knows that the truth, though sometimes hard to hear, is ultimately beneficial. I deeply admire how he prioritizes his relationship with God, his relationship with his family, and how he genuinely cares about others. Watching how he treats the people he loves made it so clear that he was the person I wanted to build a life with.

How long did you date?

We dated for six years. When we first started dating, I told him I wanted to wait five years before getting married not knowing I’d feel ready even sooner. Everything fell into place perfectly. We started dating on 09/21/2018, got engaged on 09/21/2023, and married exactly one year later on 09/21/2024.

How did he propose?

Alex proposed on our five-year dating anniversary. That morning, I had made him a video about our relationship and how much he meant to me. Later that evening after dinner, he said he also had something for me to watch. While I was watching the video, he was “getting ready” for something special. The video showed Alex holding our pups and saying he was going to propose to “Mom” tomorrow. It was so thoughtful because I had told him early in our relationship that I wanted my dog, Gea, involved when he proposed. Right after the video ended, Gea came out with a box on her collar. Alex proposed, I said yes, and the rest is history!

Describe your wedding planning process

Who helped with the planning?

My best friend, Jessica, and my sister-in-law, Erin, were by my side throughout the entire process! I did most of the heavy work, but they helped me navigate a log of final decisions.

Did you hire a planner or day-of coordinator?

Yes, we did, and it was SO needed! Marie and her team helped with all of the things you don’t even think about. I definitely recommend having a day-of coordinator no matter the size of your wedding!

Did you DIY any aspect of your wedding?

Actually most of the wedding was DIY’d. I designed and made the save the date magnets, our welcome sign, the candle labels, the glassware, the table candles, dried floral arrangements from Flor Keeps, and etc. It was important for me to support other local businesses.

Did you have a specific theme?

We were going for a romantic, simplistic vibe and I think we accomplished it beautifully.

Where did you splurge?

We definitely splurged on the food, and it was worth the splurge! We loved every bite and heard countless compliments from our guests!

Why did you choose your venue?

First, we chose our venue because it was available on our date. This was important to us because we started dating on 09/21/2018, we got engaged on 09/21/2023, and our wedding day was 09/21/2024. Secondly, when we toured Gruene Estates with Melinde, she told us all about the history, and I’m a lover of all old things plus a good story. We felt connected and knew this was our venue. It turned out perfectly!

What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?

The best decision was putting in the effort, staying organized, thinking of the small things, doing the research, and knowing exactly what I wanted and sticking with it.

What was your most stressful decision?

We made a Spotify playlist and cued the music ourselves, but it all worked out and didn’t even end up being that stressful on the day of!

What turned out to be your best decision surrounding the big day?

Having Marie as our day-of coordinator was our BEST decision. I can’t recommend her enough!

Is there anything you would have done differently?

We would have loved for the weather to have been a bit cooler, but that was out of our control! Texas weather does what it wants!

Tell Us About...

Your dress:

The best adjective to use would be “gorgeous.” My dress was blush with champagne and 3D flowers. It was my dream dress!

The food:

  • We love eating and love authentic street Mexican food. It was important that our food was another reflection of who we are. We heard nothing but great things about all of the food, dessert, etc.

The cake:

DELICIOUS! I still get so many compliments on how good it was. Plus the churros were a big hit.

Recap your big day for us

What made you laugh?

Right after we kissed and everyone clapped, our dogs started howling in celebration which was SO cute! Of course, some of the speeches had us laughing as well.

What made you cry?

Right before the doors opened, I cried because I had been imagining this day for a long time! I was about to marry the man with whom I love with all my soul. There is no better feeling!

What were the most memorable moments?

The most memorable moments involved seeing our family and friends having a great time along with our pups!

Did anything unexpected happen?

One of my dogs (Bandit) peed on my dress right before leaving to go to the chapel. Talk about SOS! It became a laughing matter, and everything turned out okay.

What’s the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?

Do what truly makes you happy or what you want. It’s what we did, and we both have no regrets. Take time for yourselves because you do get wrapped up in everything for everyone on the day-of.

What did you look forward to most as Mr. and Mrs.?

I looked forward to becoming Mr. and Mrs.! We were just looking forward to being together!
